Japan Rejects Direct Comparison With Germany’s Postwar Stance

Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida on Tuesday touched on the remarks made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel on postwar reconciliation, saying a simple comparison of Japanese and German history wouldn’t be appropriate.

Ms. Merkel said during a joint news conference Monday with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo that Germany reviewed the crimes carried out under Nazi rule following the end of World War II. While saying she wasn’t in a position to offer advice to Tokyo on how to mend ties with its neighbors, she said facing the past was a precondition for reconciliation.

Mr. Kishida said he respected the role Germany played in rebuilding Europe following the war, but he told reporters during a regular news conference that Japan and Germany faced different issues.

What happened in the two nations during the war was different and they dealt with postwar issues differently, he said. Mr. Kishida also said that Japan and Germany have different neighbors, and therefore it “is not appropriate to simply compare” the two, he said.

On Japan’s wartime responsibility, Mr. Kishida repeated the government’s position that it caused “tremendous damage and suffering to the people of many countries, particularly to those in Asian nations.”

Ms. Merkel arrived in Japan on Monday for a two day visit.

Please recognized the fact precisely and clearly and never mislead world citizens.
German Nation has transferred her debt on Nazi, and apologized and compensated Jewish holocaust which is perfectly irrelevant to any war. Germany has not finished apology and compensation for war victims and suffered nations yet. On the other hand, Japan Nation has taken full responsibilities of her debt on herself, and already apologized and compensated for war victims and suffered nations completely and finally, and has fulfilled legal responsibilities.
