Part 2

I seldom receive letters in my life because I don’t like writing letters, but there is a letter in my drawer, which was written to me by my mother. This letter was of great importance to me. At that time, I was studying at university. I always thought that I was smart and I didn’t have to study hard to get good marks. I went to the cinema frequently and stayed in my dorm and played with my classmates. During the mid-term exam, I failed in two courses and I was very shocked because I never expected to get this result. I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself. I didn’t know how to face my parents. I lost confidence in myself. I was silent for a few days and I didn’t speak to anybody. One day, my roommate gave me a letter, I opened and read it. It was from my mother. She said that she knew about my examination and told me not to worry about it. Life is full of ups and downs and there is no need to be so particular about it. She said that she believed that I could do well if I tried. I couldn’t remember what she said exactly, but i was greatly encouraged by her words. I studied hard and got good marks in the final exam. My mother’s letter was important to me because it encouraged me when I felt depressed. I kept the letter and took it out when I felt bad. It’s a kind of spiritual food for me.

Part 3

  1. I seldom write letters because it’s troublesome to write letters. I make phone calls or send emails.
  2. It’s convenient to send emails and the message is going to reach a person with a few seconds. It’s extremely fast. Letters will arrive rather slowly, but letters give us an intimate feeling.
  3. I don’t think so. No matter how developed computer technology becomes, some people still prefer this old way of communication.
  4. People write letter to express their feeling towards others, or to communicate or discuss some problems with others.
