My sister!

That was her first time visiting NYC.

There was a storm in Japan, and her plane experienced a long delay, but finally took off from Narita airport to JFK. on Sep 10th 2001.

There was storm in NY as well, and the plane couldn't land in NY.
Finally after circling repeatedly, it landed at JFK, albeit really late in the evening..
This ruined her first day of being in NY.

So she and her friend really wanted to catch up on her vacation, and decided to go to Statue of Liberty in the early morning on Sep 11th.

They went to the World trade center around 8:30am and had breakfast near there, and got a bagel while  looking up at the twin towers.

After breakfast, they went to Battery park, and got in line to ride the ferry to Statue of Liberty.

All pictures taken by my sister.

While waiting for the first ferry... suddenly she was witness to this, the explosion...

Fire?

After 10 minutes, another airplane was flying low., then...

The Plane crashed into the building!!!!

Evacuation order!  They had to go back to the hotel.

This was the hotel that she was staying at in the Times Square area.

Many ambulances came and went.

All Times Square screens were broadcasting the attack.

She saw the twin towers collapsing live on the screen in Times Square.

Back to the hotel,   The tragedy was still on repeat on television.

Stuck in the hotel,  No sight seeing for this tourists.

The next day, finally my sister and her friend able to get out of the hotel, and decided to go to downtown, and try to offer some kind of assistance. .

They provided small help, by trying to help clean the street, and placing flowers for the victims of the attack.

Despite being such a horrendous attack, people remained so positive.

After her time at the hotel was over, a stranger offered to let her and her friend stay at this house.

If you happen to know this house owner, please let them know. my sister wants to give her thanks again.

It was such a difficult time, but people are always trying to be positive and cheerful.

Finally, the travel agency contacted her.  My sister and her friend were able to fly back to Japan after one extra week.

It was really weird to not have anyone at JFK, which is normally one of the most busiest airports.

Happy to go back to Japan, but she was really concerned if the plane would get hijacked and crash.

An unexpected, horrible turn of events.

She felt very insignificant in the face of such a horrible tragedy, and wished there was more she could do to help.

But tomorrow will come, even though we are still in sorrow.

Tomorrow is coming, so we have to do something.

Americans are strong,

Humans are strong.

Good or bad, humans are powerful, and are able to help, or destroy, as evidenced by this terrorist attack.  Terrorists attack, New Yorkers help in the aftermath.

Just like nature, humans can make really beautiful and also really horrible things, similar to the beauty of an aurora, or the destructive nature of a hurricane.

Irma came to FL.  Hope everything is okay down there.

By the way, My sister had just came back to Japan, and then I visited NYC just 2 weeks after the attack.
I really wanted to see the true situation in NYC, not just what they show you from TV.

I appreciate my sister for sharing the experience on my radio show.

9/11.  We will never forget.
