Hey everybody, nice to meet you
My name is William and I have volunteered with English Avenue before.
However, I missed it too much and started woring here a few weeks ago
Coming back to Japan is fun and the kindness of everyone at English Avenue always makes my stay even more enjoyable .
My mother is Japanese and my father is Welsh but I can't speak Welsh and my Japanese isn't great either... Don't worry though , I can speak English
I lived in Hong Kong for a bit but mostly grew up in Japan and went to the British School in Tokyo.
At 13, I moved to the UK for boarding school and missed Japanese food so much that I came back several times a year
I am now starting my first year at University College London to major in biochemistry, and plan on doing a Master's as well (although that's a long way away).
My goal in life is to work in biotechnology and eventually start a company, maybe in gene-editing or regenerative medicine
I love swimming , running and cycling and used to play water polo .
My hobbies include studying languages (particularly Spanish, Italian and Portuguese) even though I still need to learn kanji...
I enjoy reading and learning about anything interesting .
I also like travelling and stayed in Santiago for a month last year to volunteer with Chileans living on the street.
It was a very eye-opening experience and not only made me glad that I was born in a developed country, but also made me realise the importance of welfare and our responsibility to support everyone in society .
My time at English Avenue has been such great fun so thank you to everyone, particularly Kato-san, Maiko and Brett for making this possible.
I look forward to meeting all of you here
Love,
by William
