March seems like ancient history at this point, but something interesting happened during that month that I think is worth examining.
In the middle of the month, it snowed.
This is quite unusual, as it usually only snows in Tokyo in January or February.
So mid-March is not the time in which most people expect a snowstorm .
Roughly a week later, the cherry blossoms began blooming, and the temperature warmed up. A lot.
In fact, I distinctly remember wearing short sleeves one day.
I thought the warm temperatures would last, so I also wore short sleeves the next day.
Big mistake .
Suffice it to say, I was very cold, and stepping outside was a painful experience .
But I managed to get through it without too much difficulty.
That situation perfectly illustrated the strange fluctuations in temperatures.
One week it was snowing; the next week I was wearing short sleeves.
Since then, the temperature has remained relatively steady, and while it’s certainly warmer than winter, it’s really difficult to say that the temperature is generally warm, considering it’s sometimes still necessary to wear a sweater.
Anyway, I’m definitely not looking forward to summer, with its high temperatures and humidity .
It will eventually come, of course, but let’s enjoy our time before it gets uncomfortably warm around here.
