Former River Region United Way Executive Director Jimmy Hill dies

We have some sad news to share. The former longtime executive director of the River Region United Way has died.

Jimmy Hill died last night.

He had led the United Way from 2010-2020 and was well known in the community for his giving heart.

Hill then became the state executive director of the Alabama Court Appointed Special Advocates Network.

He leaves behind family and many friends.  One of those friends is the current United Way Executive Director Jannah Bailey, who says Hill had been her best friend for more than 40 years.

“It’s very personal to me. I’ve lost a brother and a friend and a peer and all of that, but Jimmy has left his handprint on the hearts of many people in this community that will never know,” Bailey told Action 8 News.

There are now talks underway on how to memorialize Jimmy Hill’s legacy with the United Way. We will keep you updated on those plans.

We will keep you updated on when funeral arrangements are announced.
