Local teacher flies with U.S. Navy Blue Angels

Pike Road High School Robotics and STEM teacher, Catherine Kenny, got the opportunity of a lifetime with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. Catherine was nominated by a coworker and chosen to fly with the Blue Angels at Maxwell Airforce Base ahead of this weekend’s air show.

A Blue Angels pilot gave Catherine a backseat ride across the skies and did several stunts and maneuvers that they do in their air shows.

“When we flipped backwards and we experienced 7.8 Gs, that was pretty awesome,” stated Catherine Kenny after her ride with the Blue Angels.

Catherine has been an educator for 26 years. She also helped develop the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Connections in Education curriculum which has impacted almost 800,000 students since it’s inception in 2007.

Even though she has done so much for her community and students, she never thought she would ever be selected for this amazing opportunity.

“I’ve never dreamed that I would actually be selected, so that was a pretty exciting moment when I received that email saying that I had been selected and my husband’s a little jealous but it was awesome,” stated Catherine.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels always chooses a person from their pool of nominees and gives them a backseat ride on the Wednesday before their air shows.
